A New Approach To Fighting Fires

Because I live and work in San Diego I am of course personally affected by the impact the fires have created in this region during the fall of 2003. I'm also a designer and have been told by many people that they like my ideas even outside of marketing/advertising and web site design. Though I do not have personal experience in the area of fire fighting, often times solutions come from people who are not so close to the problem. (something like not seeing the forest for the trees-- so to speak. Albert Einstein said, "The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.") I believe local communities have tried their best to do what is virtually impossible with the same level of thinking and resources, so perhaps it's time to rethink the whole approach.

If you like the PowerPoint presentation I quickly tossed together regarding a paradigm shift in thinking about fire fighting, please feel free to give this address to others, send the PowerPoint file to others, etc. It contains some incredible photos of fires in San Diego County. Since many may not have access to PowerPoint, the online version of the presentation is also linked below for convenience.

I believe it's time we have the intention and will to put fires out within hours of their discovery. I also believe we have the technology and power to do so but not with existing methods of just more people and equipment in local communities.

I hope you will look at the presentation and if you agree, tell others.

Thank you,
Cliff Durfee

By the way, it's not too late to help out in the relief of these terrible fires:
